Tortilla Flat Post Office

The Arizona Business Directory and the U.S. Forest Service say a Post Office was established in Tortilla Flat on September 8, 1927. The post office is still operational today, providing service to residents of Apache Lake, Horse Mesa Dam, and Tortilla Flat located in the Mercantile/Gift Shop Building. There was a flash flood of 1942, that engulfed the tiny Town of Tortilla Flat. Every building near the creek was ripped off its foundation and carried by the current to Mormon Lake (now called Canyon Lake). The old tamarack tree, across the road from today's Country Store, was and still is a survivor of several subsequent floods. Mail yourself or family & friends, postcards or a letter on Tortilla Flat Stationary from the Tortilla Flat Post office!
